Connecting people and organizations for greater global impact.

2022 - HWC & The Shalom Foundation

In October, the two Central Texas pediatric surgical volunteer teams (General, Orthopedic) returned to the Moore Center in Guatemala City. Over five days, the teams performed 61 evaluations, 35 general surgeries, and 23 orthopedic surgeries. It was another successful medical mission. Per Shalom’s executive director, “Even the youngest of patients were thrilled to be at the Moore Center receiving much needed care through the expertise and unconditional support of this team.” Plans are already underway for the volunteers to return to the Moore Center in 2023.

2021 - HWC & The Shalom Foundation

Two Central Texas pediatric surgical volunteer teams (General, Orthopedic) treated more than forty-six children at the Moore Pediatric Surgery Center situated in Guatemala City. In preparation for surgeries, the teams performed more than sixty procedures (underlying issues) on each child. The surgery cases ranged from hernia repairs, orchidopexy, foot polydactyly, osteotomy, and tendon releases. Learn more about volunteering: https://www.theshalomfoundation.org.

Dr. Kelly M., Pediatric Surgeon: “The level of organization provided by the Moore Center once we arrived at their facility enabled us to focus on patient care needs rather than on continued logistics.”

Dr. Jana R., Anesthesiologist and Team Leader: “This mission trip exceeded our expectations. We had great support from the staff. I believe each volunteer benefited from this mission as much as the children we helped.”

2021 - HWC & One World Unity Project

HWC partnered with One World Unity Project and AVIS/Living To Serve to sponsor five newly well-constructed houses for surviving families at a cost of $6,000 per house. The basic homes, measuring about 20 x20 have two bedrooms and a main area which includes an outdoor kitchen. Each home has a cement block floor, walls, and a metal roof. Over 100 families lost homes during the 2020 mudslide in Guatemala. Learn more about donating to this project: https://oneworldunityproject.org.

“It is a life changing experience to see the good that comes from the work that these organizations are doing. The people that are the recipients of these stoves and water systems are truly grateful. Their lives are improved in so many ways. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being part of this good work!”

“This trip caused us to reflect on how YCC could make an impact in the Coban area alongside AVIS and One World Unity Project. As we experienced life in Guatemala, the reality of the need of the Chispa stoves and water filtrations became real as we saw the native Guatemalans, specifically in the San Miguel mountains, living below what we, as Americans, would consider extreme poverty level.”
